A grand celebration marking the 2025 Ethnic Torch Festival lit up Gesala Yi ethnic township in Yanbian county, Sichuan province, on Wednesday, drawing ethnic groups from nearby areas and thousands of tourists from around the country.
The weeklong festival, which ran from July 11 to 17, featured traditional performances, folk rituals, and cultural competitions across three townships Gesala (main venue), and Hongguo and Wenquan (sub-venues), the organizers said.

A standout moment came during the Duoluohe performance, when 1,000 women from the Yi and other local ethnic groups, dressed in vibrant traditional attire, descended a hillside in unison. Holding golden oil-paper umbrellas and embroidered handkerchiefs, they moved gracefully in a clockwise circle, creating a visually stunning spectacle.
The festival also included traditional circle dances, a grand fire ritual, and some contests such as wrestling, sheep fighting, and cockfighting, according to event organizers.
