(ECNS) -- Chinese humanoid robots drew widespread attention after six machines developed by Unitree Robotics performed as backup dancers at a concert by pop star Wang Leehom in Chengdu, executing high-difficulty flips.

Videos of the performance quickly went viral online and were reposted by Tesla CEO Elon Musk on social media platform X, where he commented"Impressive."

Video from the concert shows the robots moving in close coordination with human performers, executing synchronized dance moves including arm swings, leg kicks and spins.

The G1 humanoid robots were developed by Hangzhou-based Unitree Robotics. The company said its technical team worked closely with the concert's production crew, conducting repeated rehearsals and system calibrations to ensure choreography accuracy, rhythm synchronization and on-stage safety.

According to Unitree, the G1 robots feature millisecond-level motion response and dynamic balance control systems designed to support complex, high-intensity movements. The robots also use multi-agent control technology, allowing multiple units to perform synchronized routines, and basic environmental perception to help avoid collisions under challenging stage conditions.

The concert appearance is part of a broader trajectory of expanding applications for humanoid robots beyond laboratory settings.

During the 2021 Spring Festival Gala, Unitree quadruped robots performed rolling and backflip routines. At the Gala, its robots appeared in traditional padded jackets, performing complex actions such as handkerchief spinning.

Unitree founder and CEO Wang Xingxing said recently the company's humanoid robots are now capable of completing most work-related actions through offline pre-training or real-time imitation learning.

Industry observers say that as robotic movements become more advanced, competition in the sector is increasingly shifting toward operational reliability, cost efficiency and long-term performance in real-world applications.
