(ECNS) -- Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Ahmed Al-Ahmed at a hospital in Sydney, who risked his life to disarm one of the alleged Bondi attackers and save multiple lives in Sydney on Sunday evening.
In a post on social media, Albanese praised Ahmed as "an Australian hero," saying, "you put yourself at risk to save others, running towards danger on Bondi Beach and disarming a terrorist."
He added that"In the worst of times, we see the best of Australians. And that's exactly what we saw on Sunday night."
According to reports, Ahmed had been having coffee with friends at Bondi Beach on the day of the incident when gunshots rang out.
"He decided to take action, and his bravery is an inspiration for all Australians," Albanese said.
The Prime Minister also met Ahmed's mother and father in the hospital, who visited their son from Syria.
Reports said Ahmed is a Syrian-born Australian citizen who runs a fruit shop and has two children.
