(ECNS) -- One miner was rescued and seven others were confirmed dead after a mining incident occurred at the Shuijingkeng Coal Mine in Datian County, southeast China's Fujian Province, local authorities said Friday.
Several miners employed by Fujian Guangfeng Mining Co., Ltd. were reported trapped at around 11:00 p.m. Thursday, the county-level government of Datian said.
Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site. At 4:10 a.m. Friday, an injured person managed to escape independently. The remaining seven individuals were lifted out of the mine, but were confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Further investigation into the accident is underway.
