(ECNS) — A total of 44 people have been confirmed dead and 9 remain missing in Beijing following heavy rainfall that struck the city from July 23 to 29, local authorities said on Thursday.
Xia Linmao, executive vice mayor of Beijing, made the announcement at a press conference on flood control and disaster relief held in the capital.
Among the deceased, 31 were from a senior care facility in Taishitun Township, Miyun District. Four of the nine missing people are village Party branch secretaries who were engaged in frontline rescue and emergency response operations, according to the press conference.
