China, Myanmar discuss joint efforts to tackle online gambling and telecom fraud

(ECNS) — The Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ma Jia and a Chinese delegation led by Assistant Public Security Minister Liu Zhongyi, met with Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister U Than Swe, and Home Affairs Minister Tun Tun Naung, on Friday to discuss enhanced cooperation on security and law enforcement. The talks focused on combating cross-border crimes, notably online gambling fraud and telecom fraud.

The Chinese side expressed appreciation for Myanmar's proactive measures in safeguarding the safety of its nationals. They underscored the significant risks posed by online gambling, which endangers both lives and property. China reiterated its commitment to working closely with Myanmar, as well as neighboring countries like Thailand, to strengthen both bilateral and multilateral efforts to combat these illegal activities.

Myanmar officials detailed their government's recent steps to combat online gambling and telecom fraud, reaffirming the nation's determination to tackle these crimes head-on. Myanmar also expressed its interest in establishing a regular cooperation framework with China and other neighboring nations, aiming to foster ongoing collaboration in the fight against cross-border criminal activities.
