(ECNS) -- The number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases across the world surpassed 1.91 million as of 8:25 Beijing time (0025 GMT)on Tuesday, with fatalities exceeding 119,000, according to the latest tally by Johns Hopkins University. 

The U.S. has recorded 580,000 confirmed cases and 23,000 deaths, with the state of New York being the hardest-hit one. 

Europe has reported 900,000 confirmed infections and nearly 80,000 patients succumbed to the disease. 

In Italy, the number of total confirmed cases -- combining active infections, fatalities and recoveries -- rose to 159,516 and the death toll to 20,465. 

In Spain, the number of both new cases and deaths in a 24-hour span dropped. The total deaths rose to 17,489. 

French President Emmanuel Macron, in a televised national address on Monday evening, announced that the country will extend its coronavirus lockdown measures until May 11. 

The Chinese mainland reported 89 new confirmed cases, of which 86 were from abroad, the National Health Commission said on Monday. The 3 new domestically transmitted cases are from Guangdong Province. 

By April 13, there have been 82,249 cumulative infections, 77,738 recoveries, 3,341 deaths and 1,170 remaining infections in the Chinese mainland. Another 1,009 cumulative cases in Hong Kong, 45 in Macao and 393 in Taiwan have been reported.
