(ECNS) - A study shows that employees value whether they are respected in a company more than the salary offered.

The 2018 Top 100 Employers report by Chinese job website Zhaopin.com and Institute of Social Science Survey of Peking University said the most important aspect for employees is whether the company respects them and their development.

Increasing numbers of those born after 1995 are starting to enter the workplace, a generation that has more diversified values and thinks highly of their personal experiences, according to the report.

Employers need to create a corporate culture that is inclusive, open, innovative and respectful in order to attract people with different qualities, said the study.

Salary is not the only important factor, as employees want to increase their self-value through learning. Enterprises must adapt to the individual needs of employees and stimulate their abilities to create value.

Guo Sheng, CEO of Zhaopin.com, said the core incentive mechanism at a good company is not the salary but the level of respect, training and self-fulfillment.

Among the companies on the list, 28 percent are from production, processing and manufacturing industries, followed by the IT, communications, electronics and internet industries at 24 percent.

Organizers of the list received a total of 30,854 valid applicantions for inclusion, an increase of 76 percent year-on-year. The number of SMEs rose by 7 percent compared with last year.

According to the report, 34 percent of the top 100 enterprises are wholly foreign-owned, 75 percent are in first-tier cities and 65 percent have more than 10,000 employees.
