(ECNS) - Three Chinese airlines will increase fuel surcharges starting October 5.

Chinese carriers Lucky Air, Okay Airways and China Southern Airlines stated on Saturday they would begin charging each passenger 20 yuan ($2.9) from 10 yuan previously on domestic routes less than 800 kilometers long and 30 yuan for routes more than 800 kilometers.

From June 5, more than 10 Chinese carriers including Air China and China Eastern Airlines started applying a fuel surcharge of 10 yuan to domestic routes, the first time they have done so in three years as oil prices began to rise.

Cathay Pacific Airways said on Thursday that it would reintroduce fuel surcharges in a bid to ease the airline’s cost pressure from Nov. 2.
