(ECNS) -- Chinese authorities have launched a safety campaign by sending workgroups to ride-hailing companies to improve passenger security measures, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The ministry has joined with the Cyberspace Administration, Ministry of Public Security and other departments to begin comprehensive inspections at Shouqi Limousine and Chauffeur (01zhuanche.com), Shenzhou Zhuanche (10101111.com) and other mobility platforms.

Companies are required to strengthen risk management and controls, apply face recognition and other technologies before dispatching orders, and review the consistency of vehicle and driver information.

Inspections will cover all ride-hailing service platforms nationwide after a driver from Didi Chuxing murdered a 20-year-old passenger. Vehicles and drivers that do not meet the requirements will be removed from service before Dec. 31.

Big Data is among technologies being employed to detect route deviation by drivers, unreasonably long stops and other suspicious driving abnormalities.

Ride-hailing platforms need to share with public security real-time information such as vehicle registration data, vehicle position, driving routes and passenger information. Companies must set up a 24-hour team for operational safety management and emergency response.
