(ECNS) - The number of female electronic game players continues to grow rapidly, contributing significantly to an industry previously dominated by male counterparts, according to a report by research institute CNG.

China had some 583 million game players in 2017, an increase of 21 million over the previous year, with female players growing by 6 percent, or 15 million in the period, the biggest driving force in China’s growing game-playing population.

Data shows the number of female game players maintained steady growth for years and has risen to almost half the total in China. Their numbers are expected to reach 281 million this year.

CNG analysts said more producers introduced games targeting women, including the popular Travel Fog created by Japanese game company Hit-Point and domestic virtual boyfriend game Love and Producer.

Love and Producer has been downloaded over 9.5 million times following its release in late 2017. Travel Fog has been installed more than 22.49 million times, with over 70 percent of its players female.

CNG data shows female players account for 60 percent of the 370 million players of recreational games. Easy playing, great graphics and less violence were thought to be key element in wooing women.

More and more women are also playing MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games such as King of Glory.

The report shows that less than one quarter of game sales revenue came from female users despite their growing number, mainly due to the long-term emphasis on male game players. This means the market potential is huge if there are to be more products for women.
