(ECNS) -- The Phoenix Flag, a symbol of South Korea's head of state, was raised at Cheong Wa Dae at midnight local time on Sunday, marking the presidential office's officially return to Cheong Wa Dae after a three-year-and-seven-month absence.
South Korea's presidential office said its President Lee Jae Myung worked at Cheong Wa Dae for the first time after the relocation on the day.
Since 1948, Cheong Wa Dae has served as both the official residence and office for almost every South Korean president. However, after taking office in May 2022, former President Yoon Suk-yeol relocated the presidential office to a newly established compound at the former Ministry of National Defense building in Seoul's Yongsan district, opening Cheong Wa Dae to the public.
