(ECNS) - China's crude oil output in 2025 is expected to reach 215 million metric tons, a record high, while natural gas production could rise to 260 billion cubic meters, up 35% from the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2015-2020), data from the National Energy Administration (NEA) shows.
By 2030, China's crude oil output is projected to remain steady at around 200 million metric tons, while natural gas production could increase to 300 billion cubic meters, said an official from the Economics and Technology Research Institute of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).
The World and China Energy Outlook 2060, released by the CNPC, shows China's energy mix is becoming more diversified and balanced, with coal consumption expected to decline, oil and gas remaining stable, and non-fossil energy continuing to rise over the next decade.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–2025), China has significantly strengthened its oil and gas supply capacity, with steady improvements in storage and transportation infrastructure.
By the end of the period, the total length of crude oil and refined oil pipelines reached about 67,000 kilometers, while long-distance natural gas pipelines totaled around 128,000 kilometers, up 4% and 16%, respectively, compared with the end of the previous plan period. Gas storage construction has also advanced, substantially boosting peak-shaving capacity.
