Tremors were felt in Taiwan on Sunday afternoon as two earthquakes rattled the eastern Yilan County, according to the island's meteorological agency.

A 6.5-magnitude quake first struck the county at 1:11 p.m., said the meteorological agency, adding that the epicenter, with a depth of 66.8 km, was monitored at 24.53 degrees north latitude and 121.79 degrees east longitude.

This was quickly followed by another 5.4-magnitude earthquake with the epicenter, measuring a depth of 67.3 km, monitored at 24.59 degrees north latitude and 121.72 degrees east longitude.

Buildings in Taipei shook for around one minute, but no casualties have been reported so far.

Subway services that were halted as a result of the quakes have now resumed.
