Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang responded to the U.S. announcement of an increase in tariff rates on 550 billion U.S. dollars worth of Chinese imports during a press conference on Monday.

"China is not afraid of any threats and intimidation," Geng said.

"We strongly urge the U.S. not to misjudge the situation and immediately stop the wrongful act," Geng added.

China decided on Friday to impose an additional tariff of either 10 percent or five percent on 5,078 items from the U.S. worth about 75 billion U.S. dollars, in response to the U.S. announcement earlier this month to impose additional tariffs on Chinese imports.
