China has made progress in improving its ideological and political education for students by setting up professional research institutions and promoting new textbooks, according to the Ministry of Education.

As many as 85.2 percent of China's higher education institutes have set up their own research institutions that conduct research on ideological and political education by the end of 2018, the ministry said.

Among those, 1,109 were undergraduate colleges, accounting for 89.5 percent of the total undergraduate colleges, it said.

In terms of textbooks, the ministry has worked jointly with Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee to overhaul the textbooks for ideology and political courses of the nine-year compulsory education.

In addition, schools across the country have seen a growth in the number and quality of teachers for such courses. A survey covering more than 30,000 college students showed that 91.8 percent of them had good impression on their teachers responsible for ideological and political courses.
