Kim Jong Un,top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun on the country's national memorial day, the Korean Central News Agency reported Monday.

Kim paid homage to the statues of Kim Il Sung, his grandfather and the founder of the DPRK, and his father Kim Jong Il. He then entered the hall where the embalmed body of Kim Jong Il lies, the report said.

Kim Jong Il passed away on Dec. 17, 2011, which was later marked as a national memorial day in the DPRK.

Kim called on the ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) to adhere to the philosophies of Kim Jong Il and fulfill their duties as Kim Jong Il's revolutionary soldiers, the report added.

The Kumsusan Palace of the Sun is a building in northeast Pyongyang that serves as the mausoleum for Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.
