Wulf-Diether Graf zu Castell-Rüdenhausen, a former Lufthansa pilot, worked in China from 1933 to 1936. In his numerous flights over the north and south China, he took aerial pictures of the country with a unique perspective to explore and discover Chinese scenery, landscape, ethnic culture and historical relics with a Leica camera to keep his impression of China. Castle was born in a noble family in Berlin in 1905. He became fascinated about Chinese culture when he was young. He was especially obsessed with Swedish explorer Sven Hedin'S adventure in Tibet and the Pamir Plateau. Leaving for the Far East was his biggest dream when he was a boy.
