(Ecns.cn)--With exhilarating dance moves, Zhuo Jun, a 19-year-old hip-hopper, ultimately claimed the title in the second season of "China's Got Talent," a TV program similar to "American Idol" or "Britain's Got Talent," in Shanghai on July 10.
Zhuo began his performance by coming out of a big box, a prop that according to him represents his past life. He later delighted the audience with his incredible muscular jerks and robotic movements on a stage filled with balloons, which, said Zhuo, symbolized his dreams.
Different from other hip-hoppers who are sometimes violent when dancing, Zhuo added lightness and simplicity to his performance, commented one of the judges.
Praised by many as "a genius," it is surprising to find that Zhuo just started dancing two years ago when he was 18. He began mainly by imitating his idols, including the King of Dance, Michael Jackson, and Korean star, Nam Hyun Joon, on TV and through the Internet.
Learning and practicing were "painful, yet exiting," said Zhuo, who has suffered from many injuries. But Zhuo said he never once thought of giving up.
"It's like if you love playing basketball, you wouldn't drop it once you got hurt," explained Zhou in an interview with Tencent, one of China's leading Internet service portals.
Speaking of the secrets of his success, Zhuo said excitedly "you need a thick skin to be a good dancer."
Zhuo's life has changed after topping the competition, which is what his performance was trying to express: he will never go back to the days of his former life, which used to be quiet and simple.
"Now I almost dare not log on my QQ (a Chinese instant messenger client like MSN) as too many people will try to talk to me once I am online," said Zhuo.
Growing up in a village in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Zhuo, in fact, had already been a celebrity in his hometown before showing up on TV, as he is the only college student there.
Zhuo currently is a student at the Guangxi Technological College of Machinery and Electricity, majoring in Comics and Animation.
"Before entering the contest, my dream was to be an excellent animator," said Zhuo, who told the Tencent reporter that he had decided to stick with his studies even after winning the show.
"I can dance whenever I want, but I may not have the chance to study in college at any time. However, if there are performances that don't interfere with my class schedule, I would like to participant in them," explained Zhuo.
"Dancing is my hobby. But I would also be happy if I could earn some money from it sometimes," Zhuo added.
