(ECNS) -- The first phase of the 140th China Import and Export Fair, known as the Canton Fair, closed Monday in Guangzhou after drawing 189,000 overseas buyers from 214 countries and regions, up 13.3% from the same phase of the previous fair.
The fair runs in three phases from Oct. 15 to Nov. 4.
Phase 1 focused on advanced manufacturing, with 520,000 square meters of exhibition space, more than 25,000 booths and more than 12,000 exhibitors, displaying products in 19 zones across five sectors: electronics and home appliances, industrial automation, lighting and electrical gear, hardware tools, and new energy vehicles and smart mobility.
Phase 2 will run Oct. 23-27 and feature building materials, furniture, daily-use ceramics and home decorations.
Phase 3 is scheduled for Oct. 31-Nov. 4 and will display toys, maternity and infant products, garments, food and smart medical supplies.
This year marks the Canton Fair's 70th anniversary. Its exhibition area has grown from 9,600 square meters at its debut to 1.55 million square meters, while the number of buyers has risen from 1,200 to more than 300,000. It is China’s longest-running, largest and highest-volume international trade fair.
