(ECNS) -- Sugar beet harvesting is in full swing across major growing areas of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in northwest China, as mechanization across the production chain helps improve efficiency and crop quality.
In one division of the Corps, about 7,893 hectares of sugar beets are ready for harvest. Harvesters and loaders are busy in the fields, with heaps of freshly harvested beets piled along the field edges.
Mechanized harvesting began on Sept. 26, with large, modern harvesters and loaders helping speed up operations and improve harvesting efficiency, according to a local official.
In recent years, the Corps has strengthened support for the sugar beet industry at every stage, from seed selection and precision planting to field management, mechanized harvesting, contract farming and sugar processing.
By better connecting agricultural production with industrial processing, the approach is helping modernize the sugar beet industry, boost efficiency and promote its steady growth.
