(ECNS) -- The 140th China Import and Export Fair, widely known as the Canton Fair, opened in Guangzhou City of Gungdong Province on Thursday, marking the 70th anniversary of the trade event. The fair covers 1.55 million square meters and will run in three phases through Nov. 4.

This year's fair puts the spotlight on innovation, green technology and smart manufacturing, bringing together businesses and buyers from around the world to explore new products and business opportunities.

More than 11,000 of the 32,000 exhibitors are specialized and sophisticated companies or industry leaders with a strong focus on niche markets, organizers said.

Some 64% of exhibitors have adopted technologies such as industrial internet and artificial intelligence.

New products account for 23.2% of the exhibits, while green products make up 26% — both record highs. The fair is also set to host more than 700 new product launch events, with the number of products unveiled expected to increase 15% from the previous edition.

The first phase, running from Oct. 15 to 19, focuses on advanced manufacturing and covers 520,000 square meters, with more than 25,000 booths and over 12,000 exhibitors.

It features 19 exhibition areas across five major sections, including electronics and household appliances and industrial automation. The displays highlight emerging trends in new energy, smart manufacturing and embodied AI, all key areas of interest for global buyers.

The first phase also includes 17 dedicated zones for emerging and future industries, showcasing technologies such as service robots, drones and advanced displays. The exhibits highlight advances in manufacturing and closer integration across supply chains and the commercialization of technological innovations.
