Peng Xuwei wins Asian Games gold, hopes to inspire more Asian backstroke swimmers

(ECNS) -- Chinese swimmer Peng Xuwei claimed the women's 200-meter backstroke title at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Tuesday, clocking 2:05.77 and setting a new Asian record.

Speaking after the final race, Peng said she had not set specific expectations for her time, but instead focused on how to approach each 50-meter segment.

"I think I've made significant progress in terms of my mindset. Since the second half of this year, I've been doing mental training two to three times a week, and it has helped me a lot. It has given me greater control during competitions," she said.

On breaking the Asian record, Peng said that she hoped the record would inspire more Asian backstroke swimmers to challenge her, allowing them to push one another to improve and progress together toward the top of the international stage.

Looking ahead, Peng said her goal remains the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

"I hope I can swim even faster and challenge the world's top swimmers," she said.
