(ECNS) -- Dehua County in Fujian Province, known as the "World Capital of Ceramics," has unveiled a new strategy to upgrade its ceramic industry, with more than 3 billion yuan (about $416 million) in investment aimed at expanding its international reach.
Wu Zhipu, magistrate of Dehua County, unveiled the development blueprint at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Dehua Ceramic Culture Week on Saturday.
He said Dehua will work to enhance the industry's artistic value, strengthen its integration with urban development and expand the global influence of its brands.
Dehua has introduced a six-pillar plan to drive industrial upgrading, with an initial investment of 120 million yuan. The broader 3-billion-yuan investment will support six core platforms covering quality inspection, cross-border supervision and data services across the entire industrial chain.
Six project clusters focusing on industrial park development, Fujian-Taiwan collaboration and international cooperation will further expand the industry's development space and foster new growth drivers.
With a long history of porcelain making, Dehua's white porcelain craftsmanship dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618–907). From the Song (960–1279) and Yuan (1271–1368) dynasties onward, Dehua ceramics were exported overseas in large quantities via the ancient Maritime Silk Road.
Dehua is home to more than 4,000 ceramic companies and 100,000 workers, supported by a complete industrial chain. It is China's largest producer and exporter of ceramic artware, as well as the country's leading producer of ceramic tea sets and flower pots.
