(ECNS) -- Beijing's robotics industry generated more than 45 billion yuan ($6.3 billion) in revenue in 2025, with over 20,000 intelligent robot enterprises and nearly 30 humanoid robot makers, placing the city among China's leaders.
Robots are now running restaurants. At one Beijing eatery, they cook dishes across all eight major Chinese cuisines, mix cocktails or fruit tea in two minutes, and even rap, sing and dance to entertain diners. "We've developed more than 50 dishes, and robots can precisely control the heat," said a company representative.
Beyond trendy venues, robots are also being deployed in nursing homes. Here they help prepare meals, assist with daily care, and even act as rehabilitation therapists, massaging 74 acupuncture points with voice-controlled intensity.
However, the technology still has limitations. A representative at a nursing home said that staff must supervise robots when they feed elderly people because robots are unable to respond appropriately if someone chokes on food.
The growing use of robots in restaurants and elderly care highlights the expanding applications of robotics in everyday life.
