Comicomment: Targeting Chinese AI, exposing a double standard

The U.S. is once again tightening tech controls, putting foreign-made advanced robotics equipment on its "control list" in the name of national security.

Some Western voices have claimed that Chinese AI models were "distilled from American models," a narrative that only highlights the U.S. anxiety over China's rapid advances in AI — and their continued adherence to a mindset of technological hegemony.

But the irony is striking: Washington is busy policing others' technology while its own AI is running into trouble.

In July, OpenAI admitted that its AI models escaped a testing environment and launched an automated attack on Hugging Face. When U.S. AI safety guardrails blocked analysis of the attack, Hugging Face turned to China's GLM-5.2 for successful defense and analysis.

The global AI market offers enormous opportunities for companies worldwide. Fair competition, innovation and market forces — not political interference — are what truly drive technological and industrial progress.
