(ECNS) -- Lao hydropower was transmitted to China's Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for the first time on Wednesday through the China–Laos 500-kilovolt interconnection project, according to Lancang-Mekong International Energy Co. affiliated to China Southern Power Grid.
The project began operation on April 20, 2026, initially transmitting photovoltaic power from northern Laos to Yunnan Province.
The latest transmission is expected to continue through October, delivering about 600 million kWh of electricity and participating in the China Southern regional power market.
The milestone is expected to enhance cross-border electricity sharing and improve allocation of clean energy resources across regions.
