(ECNS) -- A hit-and-run traffic accident that happened in Kunming City, southwest China's Yunnan Province on Sunday left two dead and nine injured, local authorities confirmed Monday.
The collision occurred at 13:16 on Jinbi Road in Xishan District when a 49-year-old driver surnamed Li was driving a blue compact SUV, striking multiple electric bicycles and pedestrians. Then the driver fled the scene, causing secondary collisions with other vehicles and pedestrians along his escape route.
All of the nine injured people, including five slightly injured, have been sent to a local hospital and are in stable condition with no life-threatening dangers.
The driver has been arrested by police, with drunk driving and drug-impaired driving ruled out. Preliminary investigation has confirmed it as a hit-and-run case, and further investigation is underway.
