Chinese-made robots impress global mayors in Ningbo with skills of drumming, calligraphy and screwdriving

While many robots are still in the development and testing phase, embodied robots in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, have passed many real-scenario trials and are poised to become workers in factories. International guests attending the 2026 Global Mayors Dialogue · Ningbo visited PIA Automation on Wednesday to get a close-up look at its robotic factory and experience the capabilities of China's intelligent manufacturing.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council have launched a special initiative to train humanoid robots and embodied AI systems in real-world scenarios. Robots are expected to enter "work mode" by the end of the year 2026, helping build the capacity for large-scale deployment of tens of thousands of units.
