(ECNS)--Inside Pu'er National Unity Park in Southwest China's Yunnan Province, a monument has stood quietly for more than seven decades. Known as the "First Monument to National Unity in the People's Republic of China," the Monument to the National Unity Oath bears a solemn pledge made by representatives of Yunnan's ethnic groups: "From this day forward, we shall be of one heart and mind, remain united to the end, and, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, pledge to strive for this one big family founded on equality, freedom, and happiness." More than 70 years on, the pledge engraved in stone has lost none of its power. Its spirit lives on, inspiring new chapters to the story of national unity.
