Xinjiang Uyghur youth rescuer: I feel at home even when I'm far away

(ECNS) -- The National Conference on Model Deeds of Ethnic Unity and Progress was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Dec. 27, 2024. Yusupujiang Aibibula, a Uyghur youth from Hotan, Xinjiang, shared his touching story of dedicating himself to the cause of ethnic unity and progress.

Yusupujiang, a barbecue restaurant owner in Jianli City, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province was hornored as a “role model for ethnic unity and progress” in September, 2024 for his bravery in rescuing three children from drowning in the Yangtze River over two days despite not knowing how to swim.

He credits his family, particularly his grandmother, a member of the Communist Party of China, for instilling in him the values of doing good deeds and helping others in need.

The young man also joined the Dandelion Love Association in Jianli City, where he helps the poor, assists the disabled, and donates money to students in need. He also helps young people from his hometown find jobs and start businesses. (Gong Weiwei)
