Japan should clarify its so-called "consistent stance" on China's Taiwan, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday during a daily press briefing.
"Japan has recently mentioned its consistent stance on the Taiwan question. However, what exactly is the specific content of Japan's so-called consistent stance? Can Japan fully and publicly articulate this consistent stance?" spokesperson Mao Ning asked.
If Japan merely reiterates that its position remains unchanged but is vague about the specific content and constantly crosses the line in its actions, then such reiteration is empty rhetoric and an attempt to dilute and hollow out the one-China principle, Mao said.
China has expressed its solemn stance on the erroneous remarks made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on China's Taiwan, Mao said, adding that the remarks gravely violate the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan and fundamentally undermine the political foundation of China-Japan relations.
