(ECNS) -- Preparations for island-wide customs clearance at the Hainan Free Trade Port are nearly complete, officials said Wednesday at a government press briefing.

Wang Fengli, an official from the Hainan Provincial government, stated that on Sept. 15, the Hainan Free Trade Port initiated a trial run of its customs checkpoint, which separates the zone from the rest of China, implementing smart and efficient supervision on three types of goods.

Infrastructure and inspection facilities for the Free Trade Port's eight open ports and ten checkpoints are now largely complete, and 64 comprehensive anti-smuggling stations have been deployed and are operating with specialized personnel, according to Wang.

Supporting IT systems such as the Customs Smart Supervision Platform have been completed, he added.

Wang mentioned that the island-wide customs operation is the starting point for a new phase of open development in the Free Trade Port, as well as a long-term, ongoing task requiring continuous advancement,.

The Port will officially launch an island-wide independent customs operation on Dec. 18, 2025.
