(ECNS) -- A Long March-12 carrier rocket carrying a group of internet satellites blasted off from the Hainan commercial spacecraft launch site in south China's Hainan Province on Monday.
It is the second rocket that successfully blasted off from the launch site in five days, which has verified the capability of China's first commercial space launch site.
On July 30, a new group of low Earth orbit satellites aboard a Long March-8A carrier rocket was launched from the satellite.
The construction of the launch site commenced in July 2022, marking the first of its kind built for commercial missions in China.
With an investment of over 4 billion yuan (about $553 million), the launch site is operated by the Hainan International Commercial Aerospace Launch Co., Ltd. (HICAL).
It includes a launch area, a TT&C (telemetry, tracking, and command) building, rocket assembly buildings, spacecraft testing facilities, fuel storage facilities and other structures.
The site currently has two launch pads designed for liquid propellant rockets. The No. 1 pad is dedicated to launching the Long March-8, China's new generation medium-lift carrier rocket. The No. 2 pad is capable of launching multiple types of rockets with various diameters from commercial rocket companies. Each pad has an annual capacity of 16 missions.
The No. 3 and 4 launch pads are under construction.
