(ECNS) -- The dividends yielded by China's 5G technology have a broad prospect, while the goals and technologies of 6G is in research stage, according to Wang Jiangping, vice minister of industry and information technology on Wednesday.

Wang made the remarks at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2023.

Many business executives attending the forum agreed that China's 5G dividend period has just begun.

China currently has over 2.4 million 5G base stations, and half of the industries are using 5G. China's manufacturing industry, which is transforming from automation to informatization and moving towards digitalization, requires the Internet of Things based on 5G, he said.

According to the International Telecommunication Union, it may be around 2030 before 6G is commercially available, Wang added. Currently, the goals of developing 6G technology and relevant technology are under research.

He pointed out that China attaches great importance to the development of 6G technology. Several years ago, a 6G technology promotion group was established to gather talents to research the goals, requirements, and key technologies of 6G. At the same time, China has also held a forum on 6G to gather wisdom.

"We hold an open attitude towards the development of 6G. We hope that people and enterprises from all over the world will uphold the concept of cooperation and mutual benefit, contribute their efforts, and promote the development of 6G, making contributions to the world's mobile communications," said Wang.
