Assembly line expanding, no second plant: Tesla insider

(ECNS) -- Tesla China is not setting up a second factory in Shanghai, an insider said on Thursday.

"It is production expansion, rather than a second plant," said the insider.

A previous report said that Tesla was going to build a second assembly line near the Shanghai Gigafactory to add 450,000 units of annual capacity.

The existing Giga Shanghai plant built 484,130 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in 2021, representing 51.7 percent of Tesla's global total of 936,000 units.
