Jurist and law educator Jiang Ping dies age 94

Jiang Ping, a well-known Chinese jurist and law educator, died at the age of 94 on Tuesday at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing, media outlet ThePaper.cn reported.

As a trailblazer in the field of civil and commercial law, Jiang was the president of China University of Political Science and Law from 1988 to 1990, and then became a tenured professor of the school, the report said.

According to CUPL's website, Jiang, born in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, studied in the Journalism Department of Yenching University, the predecessor of Peking University, from 1948 to 1949.

From 1951 to 1956, he studied at the Law School of Moscow State University.

His notable achievements include the participation of formulating laws such as the General Provisions of Civil Law, Trust Law, Contract Law and Property Law.

He also provided guidance to the compilation of the Civil Code, a fundamental law for regulating civil activities, which took effect in January 2021.
