China-developed deep-sea launch and recovery system wins top industrial award
(ECNS) — A deep-sea launch and recovery system independently developed by the No. 704 Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) has won a CIIF Award at the 26th China International Industry Fair, which opened in Shanghai on Monday.
Part of the institute's "Jiyuan" product series, the system is designed to deploy and recover manned and unmanned submersibles and scientific instruments, and to support underwater operations. It can operate across all ocean regions, including polar waters and extreme depths such as the Mariana Trench.
The system has supported the Fendouzhe crewed submersible in thousands of routine operations, according to the institute.
Unlike systems designed specifically for either polar regions or ultra-deep waters, the Jiyuan system integrates capabilities for operations across both environments, addressing a key equipment challenge in deep-sea and polar research.
