Majority of Americans favor cooperation and engagement with China

(ECNS) -- Fifty seven percent of Americans favor friendly cooperation and engagement with China, according to a survey released Monday by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. 

Support for cooperation among Republicans rose 10 percentage points from 2025, reaching its highest level since 2019, the survey found. Respondents were also increasingly less likely to view China as a threat and more likely to believe China is gaining respect globally compared with 2021.

The survey was conducted from July 10 to 21 among 2,156 adults aged 18 and older across all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
