Chinese court mediates foreign vessel collision dispute in Strait of Hormuz

(ECNS) -- The Guangzhou Maritime Court in South China's Guangdong Province has successfully mediated a dispute involving the collision of two foreign vessels in waters near the Strait of Hormuz, the Global Times reported recently.

In this case, the foreign parties agreed to apply Chinese law and accepted the jurisdiction of the Guangzhou Maritime Court.

The parties reached a settlement, resolving the dispute over liability for the collision, with the amount in dispute totaling approximately 180 million yuan (about $25 million).

The case marks an instance of a Chinese maritime court handling a complex international shipping dispute involving foreign parties and an incident that occurred outside China.
