China-Laos Railway cargo tops 90 million tonnes
(ECNS) -- The China–Laos Railway has carried more than 90 million metric tons of cargo since opening, including over 21 million tons of cross-border freight, China Railway Kunming Bureau said Tuesday.
The railway has run over 80,000 freight trains, among which more than 23,000 are cross-border freight services. Since 2026, its average daily cargo throughput has surpassed 67,000 metric tons. The daily number of cross-border freight trains has risen from an initial 2 trains to a peak of 23, while train traction tonnage has increased from 2,000 metric tons to 2,800 metric tons, marking a 40% growth in single-train transport capacity.
Authorities said new multimodal services — including “Lancang-Mekong Express + ChinaEurope Railway Express” and the “Kunming Land Port” rail-road-sea link — are expanding the corridor’s reach. More than 4,000 types of goods now move through the railway, serving 19 countries and regions across Southeast Asia.
