China-made high-end ship stabilizers secure new overseas orders

(ECNS) -- China’s independently developed high-end ship stabilizers, backed by fully intellectual property rights, have secured multiple new overseas orders.

Shanghai Hengtuo Marine Equipment Co., Ltd., affiliated with the 704th Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, secured a customized order on Tuesday to supply next-generation stabilizer systems for two luxury roll-on/roll-off passenger vessels operated by Scotland’s Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL).

The CMAL project involves two sets of retractable fin stabilizers, each with a single-fin area of 9 square meters, as well as anti-heeling systems. The vessels will each accommodate 200 passengers and provide 1,400 lane meters for vehicles. 

To address the strong winds, high waves and complex port-loading conditions of the high-latitude North Atlantic, Hengtuo Marine developed a customized roll-stabilization and anti-heeling solution.

The system is designed to reduce vessel rolling during navigation, improving passenger comfort and service quality, while also allowing the ships to quickly correct their heel during vehicle loading and unloading, enhancing port efficiency and safety.

Once completed and delivered, the vessels will operate on routes linking Aberdeen with Kirkwall and Lerwick in northern Scotland.

Prior to the latest order, Hengtuo Marine also secured a contract to supply stabilizer systems for two large luxury roll-on/roll-off passenger vessels operated by New Zealand’s Ferry Holdings Limited (FHL).

The FHL project, involving vessels capable of carrying 1,600 passengers and providing 2,400 lane meters for vehicles, is regarded as a major upgrade to shipping capacity in Oceania. Once completed, the vessels will operate across New Zealand’s Cook Strait, which is known for strong winds, high waves and challenging sea conditions throughout the year.
