(ECNS) -- The output value of China's emerging pillar industries is expected to more than double to over 10 trillion yuan (about $1.5 trillion) by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said on Tuesday.
The industries have already reached considerable scale, with their combined output value approaching 6 trillion yuan last year, the NDRC said at a press conference on China's economic and social development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
Rapid growth in research and development investment has spurred a steady stream of new technologies and products, driving the expansion of these industries, it said.
China's integrated circuit output reached 442.8 billion units in the first three quarters of this year, up 23.3% from a year earlier. Overseas licensing deals for innovative drugs developed in China were valued at about $130 billion over the same period, nearly matching the total for the whole of 2025, according to the NDRC.
The growth of emerging pillar industries is expected to become an important driver of China's high-quality economic development.
