(ECNS) -- Artificial intelligence (AI) and 3D printing are helping Chinese ceramic makers adapt their products to overseas preferences and accelerate product development, with new designs on display at the 140th China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, in Guangzhou, in south China's Guangdong Province.

At Chaozhou Haihong Ceramics Making Co., Ltd., AI tools analyze popular patterns, motifs and color combinations in overseas markets to generate designs for ceramic tableware; these designs are then printed using automated equipment. The company tailors designs to regional preferences, using fresh, floral and pastoral motifs for the U.S. and European markets, while some products for Middle Eastern markets feature crescent shapes and leopard prints.
At Quanzhou Shunmei Group Co., Ltd. in Dehua County, southeast China's Fujian Province, AI-assisted design, 3D modeling and 3D printing have improved precision in producing custom-shaped ceramic products. General Manager Zheng Pengfei said the technologies have shortened prototyping time from several weeks to a few hours and cut development costs by 60%.
