(ECNS) -- A new wave of cold air will sweep across China starting Thursday, sharply lowering temperatures across much of the north, with many areas expected to see their coldest weather of the second half of the year over the next seven days.
By this weekend, the area with daily highs of 25 degrees Celsius (77℉) or higher is expected to retreat south to the Yangtze River, according to forecasts.
By Tuesday, highs across much of northern China are forecast to fall below 20 degrees Celsius (68℉), while many areas in northwestern China, the northern part of North China and northeastern China may see highs below 10 degrees Celsius (50℉).
Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to remain above average in Jiangnan, the area south of the lower Yangtze River, and in South China, under the continued influence of a strong subtropical high-pressure system.
