(ECNS) -- The X8704/3 freight train, loaded with supplies for Tibet, departed from Chengdu North Marshalling Station on Sunday, marking the launch of a scheduled freight service between Chengdu in Sichuan Province and Lhasa in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
The service provides a new logistics corridor for delivering cargo to Tibet.
The journey takes around 68 hours. The train travels through Sichuan, Qinghai and Tibet along several major lines, including the Baocheng, Lanzhou-Chongqing and Qinghai-Tibet railways.
The first train carried 25 wagons of cargo weighing more than 500 metric tons, with a total value exceeding 15 million yuan ($2.24 million).
The cargo included chemicals, industrial machinery, electronics and electrical appliances, agricultural products and byproducts, textiles, pharmaceuticals and other items.
An official from the Chengdu Railway Logistics Center of China Railway Chengdu Bureau Group Co., Ltd. said the service offers loading and unloading by appointment, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
It also provides advance cargo consolidation and priority allocation of empty wagons to ensure smooth coordination throughout cargo handling.
