(ECNS) -- China’s Logistics Performance Index stood at 51.5% in September, up 0.6 percentage points month on month and remaining in expansion territory for a fifth consecutive month, according to data released by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing on Sunday.
Liu Yuhang, director of the China Logistics Information Center, said the sector was well positioned to maintain stable performance in the fourth quarter.
Several sub-indices rose month on month, including those for total business volume, new orders, inventory turnover frequency, capital turnover rate, equipment utilization rate, logistics service prices, core business costs, completed fixed-asset investment, employment and business activity expectations.
The new orders sub-index rose by 0.4 percentage points month on month. According to Liu, this reflects the continued interaction between policies and market forces, with measures to boost consumption and improve livelihoods supporting logistics demand and improving supply and demand conditions.
Hu Han, deputy chief economist of the China Logistics Information Center, noted that China’s logistics sector was showing signs of improvement.
Freight volumes continue to grow steadily. Some surveyed road transport companies reported a roughly 3% month-on-month increase in trunk-line freight volumes, driven by peak-season consumption.
Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, Hu said combined efforts by the government and market participants, together with progress in developing water networks, modern power grids, computing power networks, next-generation communications networks, urban underground pipeline networks and logistics networks, will help China’s logistics sector make steady progress.
