Known as the ancient capital of 13 dynasties, Luoyang's heritage spans successive capitals established in the surrounding region. Official accounts trace its cultural roots back more than 5,000 years and its urban history back roughly 4,000 years.

Founded in AD 68 during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220), White Horse Temple in Luoyang is China's first state-established Buddhist temple following the introduction of Buddhism, and is regarded as the cradle of Chinese Buddhism.

Home to more than 100,000 Buddhist statues carved into limestone cliffs, the Longmen Grottoes showcase the artistic achievements of ancient China. Each sculpture offers a glimpse into the religious beliefs, craftsmanship and cultural exchanges of its time.

Featuring 24 courses served one after another, the traditional Luoyang Water Banquet is a distinctive part of the city's culinary heritage. Its succession of soups and dishes reflects centuries of local food culture and hospitality.

Every spring, Luoyang bursts into a sea of colorful peonies, transforming the ancient city into a floral spectacle. Celebrated as the city's signature flower, the peony adds a vibrant touch to Luoyang's enduring cultural charm.
