(ECNS) -- The Maerdang Hydropower Station, the highest-altitude hydropower project on the Yellow River, operated by China Energy Investment Corporation’s Qinghai Branch, had generated over 5 billion kWh of electricity this year as of Monday, up 21.51% year-on-year, setting a new record for the same period.
Located at an average altitude of 3,300 meters in Qinghai Province, the plant has a total installed capacity of 2,320 MW.
Comprising four 550-MW hydroelectric generating units and one 120-MW unit, it serves as a key power source for China’s West-to-East Power Transmission project and the Qinghai-Henan Power Transmission project.
Since July, the station’s unit load regulation accuracy has remained at 100%. On Sunday, its single-day power output exceeded 50 million kWh, marking a record high since the plant went into operation.
Since its first unit was connected to the grid on April 1, 2024, the station has produced a total of 13.2 billion kWh of clean electricity.
