(ECNS) -- China will continue conducting search and rescue operations and providing follow-up relief while releasing timely updates on the mudslide situation and rescue progress at Gyirong Port in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Monday at a press conference.

Mao Ning, a spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry, noted that the mudslide that struck Gyirong Port has drawn extensive attention from international media, many of which have sought access to the affected areas for on-the-ground reporting.

Following round-the-clock emergency road repairs that restored preliminary access to the disaster zone, journalists from eight foreign media outlets have been invited to enter the hardest-hit area, she said.

China will spare no effort in search and rescue operations as well as subsequent aftermath disposal, the spokesperson added.
